VA's First LEED Higher Education Building!...ODU built Virginia's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified higher education building at the Engineering and Computational Sciences building behind Webb Center. LEED certification recognizes buildings designed to meet environmentally friendly standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building maximizes natural daylighting and minimize heat gain during cooling season. Office lights have motion sensors, which turn on the lights when someone enters the room, and then turn off the lights if movement ceases. Roof runoff is diverted to bioretention areas.
