Wetland and Riparian Buffer...Model Level River Star, BAE Systems, Norfolk Ship Repair , created its second voluntary tidal wetland and riparian buffer at an old ship repair railway. Volunteers planted more than 1,000 native plants at the 1.5 acre site. BAE Systems, Norfolk Ship Repair also partnered to create an 8,000 square-foot oyster reef adjacent to its first wetland restoration. Spent blasting grit is now being reused to make cement, reducing 3,500 tons of waste. |
