Phase One Begins
on Paradise Creek
Nature Park

The first 24 acres of shore along Paradise Creek have been purchased to begin creating the unique 40 acre Paradise Creek Nature Park off Victory Blvd in Portsmouth. (Read details by Megan Hoyer at the PilotOnline.)

National Geographic writer Jennifer Ackerman calls the best urban parks Space for the Soul. Paradise Creek Nature Park will be that, but it will accomplish much more. The park will be a model for restoring the larger river and the Chesapeake Bay, “one creek at a time.”

"There's nothing like it on the Elizabeth," said Marjorie Mayfield Jackson, executive

director of The Elizabeth River Project. "That's part of what makes it special - it's 40 acres preserved very much in the heart of a working harbor."

For more information, or to find out how you can help bring this unique project to life, call Barbara Bodenstein, project manager, at
757-399-RIVR. Outdoor recreation groups interested in learning more about the park especially are encouraged to call or email Barbara.

See illustrations, descriptions and a Master Plan of the project here.

Department of Forestry representatives have  visited the park site already to study natural habitat resource enhancement possibilities.
