Marjorie
Mayfield Jackson, Executive Director, Elizabeth River Project, has received the
Ernie Morgan Award of Service, the highest honor awarded each year by the
Norfolk Environmental Commission. The award was presented at a ceremony and picnic on June 23 at the
Ernie Morgan Environmental Center.
Marjorie was presented the award by Jim
English, Chairman of the Norfolk Environmental Commission and Norfolk
Mayor Paul Fraim. Master of Ceremonies was Bob Batcher, Host of
Perspectives on the City of Norfolk's Cable TV station and Public
Relations Manager for the Department of Communications.
Ernie Morgan championed Norfolk's
environment for many years and was a leader and tireless volunteer for many
worthy causes and organizations in Norfolk. His 'can do' attitude and
spirit of community involvement in City problems inspired this annual
award.
Previous Ernie Morgan Awards have been presented to Anthony L. Kealy, Commander Naval
Base Norfolk, US Navy, HR Wet, Norfolk Rotary Club, Five Points
Partnership/ Community Market, Friends of the Sand Hills, Old Dominion
University, and Elizabeth River Project's Outreach Manager, Robin
Dunbar.
"I am delighted to receive this award," said Marjorie, "and
proud to call the Norfolk Environmental Commission a partner in our
ongoing efforts to restore the Elizabeth River."
