CERES Employees Give Safety Award Money to the River

When workers at CERES Terminals met  corporate safety criteria for the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2007, they received a very nice cash award.

They could decide to spend the cash however they liked. They chose to donate a generous part of the funds to restoring the Elizabeth River.

Vice president Bill Parker (center) and longshoreman Skip Fitzgerald (left) presented a $2,500 check to Elizabeth River Project's Executive Director Marjorie Mayfield Jackson (right) on March 28. "It made me feel great that everyone decided rather than do something for ourselves, we're able to help others," said Parker. "We work on the river, so it's nice to be able to help the river."

"It's tremendous to have such selfless support from those who work on the river every day," said Jackson. Worker safety and environmental consciousness also often go hand in hand

CERES Terminals - Virginia Division, provides stevedore services to load and unload ships. Elizabeth River Project is one of five organizations the employees selected to receive part of the award funds.
