Be a Barge
Buddy on the World's First "Learning Barge"
Would
you like to be a part of educating citizens on
the world’s first floating wetland classroom
about how to help make the Elizabeth River
fishable and swimmable by 2020?
The Elizabeth River Project is seeking Volunteer
Barge Buddies that love working with students,
educating the public and have an interest in
improving the environment and restoring the
Elizabeth River.
Job function will be tailored to volunteer’s
strengths, talents and interests and may include
assisting with student field trips, public
events, and workshops; maintaining exhibits,
systems and barge cleanliness, organizing
supplies and preparing educational materials
and/or administrative tasks such as daily
statistics & logs, scheduling, mailings and
copying materials.
Those interested need to fill out an application
and will be required to attend an August
training (TBA) in preparation for fall field
trips and public events. Barge will be operating
annually from April-October and docked at
different sites in watershed throughout the
year. Barge will always be docked when
passengers are aboard, not underway.
