Adult & Group
Education Opportunities

Individuals, clubs and other groups can find exciting awareness opportunities with our Adult & Group Education programs. Choose from these:

Presentations by Princess Elizabeth

Invite Princess Elizabeth, key educator for whom the river was named in the 1600’s to your group meeting. The princess arrives in costume with a treasure box of artifacts, maps and theatrical props. Organizations receive resourceful literature to add to the presentations. All presentations highlight the river’s past, present and future while fostering stewardship.  New 2007 presentations will focus on Captain John Smith’s voyage down the Elizabeth in the 1600’s and how the watershed has changed.

Field Trips to The Elizabeth River Information Center

Schedule a field trip to the River Information Center located in Olde Towne Portsmouth on the harbor. Princess Elizabeth will tailor Elizabeth River specific activities to accommodate your group. (Intimate groups no larger than 25 are recommended). The center is open Monday through Friday 10-4 to the public. Center includes native plant exhibit, 150 gallon aquarium, interactive exhibits, Living River Classroom and resources. Field trips are available school groups, as well.

Hands-on Wetland Cleanups

Adopt a wetland, native plant exhibit or rain garden.  Sites are located in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake.  Weeding, planting and litter clean-ups are needed. Several sites require monthly maintenance and attention.  In addition, visiting these sites are a great way to learn about the importance of wetlands, native plants and habitats for a river’s ecosystem. From a one day event to a monthly commitment, you’ll be doin’ right by the river.

A River's Journey of Hope
Commemorating the 400th anniversary of Captain John Smith's Discovery of the Elizabeth River in 1607, our own historically costumed Princess Elizabeth will share the story of the river's remarkable journey and the changes it has seen through time. Explore this fascinating voyage, guided by Princess Elizabeth herself. Call to schedule today!
