Robin
Dunbar, Outreach Programs Manager for The Elizabeth River Project,
received the Norfolk Environmental Commission's top service award. Ms.
Dunbar was presented with a bronze sculpture representing the Ernie Morgan
Award of Service during the Commission's annual program on Friday,
November 21st.
In
her persona as Princess Elizabeth, the British regent for whom the
Elizabeth River was named in 1619, Ms. Dunbar has appeared before more
than 10,000 school children in the area. Princess Elizabeth enchants young
and old with interactive education on river ecology.
Calling
her "a true Hampton Roads celebrity," Larry Hoots, last year's
recipient of the award praised Ms. Dunbar's work. "Because of her
personal energy, dedication and caring, she is considered by all who meet
her to be a true Princess of the river."
More
than 20 other individuals and groups were recognized during the
ceremonies. The Friends of the Sandhills, a coalition working to preserve
the Maritime Sandhills in Norfolk's Ocean View, won the Ernie Morgan Award
of Service for organizations.
