 hanks to a convenient new
headquarters location at Admiral's Landing next to the ferry dock at the
end of High Street in Portsmouth, VA, residents and visitors now have easy
access to The Elizabeth River Project (ERP).
The new location houses ERP's first
action-oriented River Information Center. The Center features exhibits and
a 150-gallon aquarium by Nauticus
and the Virginia Science
Museum, workshops and children's camps and activities, as well as
volunteer hosts who will welcome visitors and answer river questions.
"We believe the new facility will help
further our mission to restore one of the most toxic tributaries on
the
Chesapeake Bay," says director Marjorie Mayfield Jackson. "We've
had government officials and environmentalists from as far away as China
and Bosnia seek our advice, but our neighbors have not known where to find us. Having a more visible and accessible presence will help us
in our educational efforts and let us showcase our River Stars
even more."
Major sponsors include the Portsmouth
General Hospital Foundation, The Norfolk Foundation, Beazley Foundation,
HRSD and funds generated from the sale of Chesapeake Bay license plates. Call
